ISLAMABAD: The Power Division spokesperson has issued a statement regarding the current electricity situation, revealing that hydropower generation dropped by 1,991 megawatts during last night’s peak hours.
Due to the reduced hydropower output, electricity distribution companies carried out slightly higher load management than scheduled. The total shortfall during peak hours was approximately 4,500 megawatts, while overall demand reached around 18,000 megawatts.
Officials explained that the decline in hydropower generation is linked to lower water releases from dams, as provinces have reduced demand for water compared to last year. Factors such as recent rainfall and crop harvesting have also contributed to decreased water outflow.
The spokesperson added that load management is currently limited to nighttime hours, with no shortfall reported during the day. An increase in water releases from dams is expected in the coming days, which will help improve electricity generation.
Additionally, better availability of RLNG is likely to ease the situation further. The Power Division apologized for the additional load management and urged consumers to conserve electricity, especially during nighttime hours.
