Power Division issues fresh advisory on evening power outages

Power Division issues fresh advisory on evening power outages

ISLAMABAD: As per the Power Division, there is not enough LNG available to generate electricity from power plants that have a total capacity of 5,000 megawatts.

Also, it was mentioned by a spokesperson that once LNG is available, and there is increased discharge of water from dams, then the problem of power generation at night will end.

Commenting on the electricity situation at night peak hours on April 27, the spokesperson said that there was increased discharge of water from Tarbela Dam at night, which helped increase hydropower generation to 6,000 MW. The hydropower capacity of Pakistan is 11,500 MW.

Moreover, some power plants had increased their electricity generation because of local gas supply, and an addition of 100 MW could easily happen while sending 500 MW from the south.

Further adding to his comments, the spokesperson explained that load management for one or two hours had been done during night peak hours.

Nonetheless, an increase in the generation of hydropower has kept the limit of load management to below two hours despite the increased demand. Economic load management is being practiced in areas where loss is high, without impacting peak hour load management.
