PPP's Khursheed Shah airlifted to Karachi Hospital: Here's why!

KARACHI: Senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah was shifted to Karachi from the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) Sukkur on Monday after his health deteriorated.

According to party and family sources, Shah was taken to Karachi in a special plane of the Sindh Chief Minister. He is expected to undergo further medical examination and treatment in Karachi.

The veteran politician’s condition reportedly deteriorated over the weekend, prompting doctors to advise him to be shifted to a facility with advanced healthcare services.

Shah, a prominent PPP leader from Sukkur, has played several important political roles and remains an influential figure within the party. He has been elected to the National Assembly several times, most recently in February 2024, and previously served from 1990 to 2018 and from 2018 to 2023.

He started his career in the Sindh Assembly in 1988, later holding positions in both the provincial and federal cabinets. He was the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly from 2013 to 2018. In 2019, he was arrested by the NAB on charges of assets beyond his means, but in 2021, the Supreme Court released him on bail.
