ISLAMABAD: President Azad Jammu & Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry, a prominent leader of Kashmir and a strong voice for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, passed away in Islamabad after a prolonged illness. He was 71 years old. His death was confirmed by media advisor Kamal Haider.
The funeral prayers will be held tomorrow, Sunday, at 4:00 PM in his ancestral village of Chechian, Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, after which he will be laid to rest.
Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry was born on August 9, 1955, in Chechian, Mirpur. He received his early education locally, completed his matriculation from Cantt Public School, Rawalpindi, and graduated from Gordon College, Rawalpindi. He later went to the United Kingdom for higher education and earned his Bar at Law degree from the prestigious Lincoln’s Inn.
A respected leader and advocate for Kashmiri rights, his death marks a significant loss for Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
