LAHORE: Former federal minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Hammad Azhar on Thursday announced his decision to voluntarily approach the court to file a bail petition.
In a post on social media site X, PTI Punjab President said that he has consulted his close associates and legal team to appear before the court shortly.
“I am innocent and have been targeted with baseless and fabricated cases that have no legal ground. In this regard, I will approach the court and seek justice,” he wrote.
The development came after Hammad Azhar, who had been in hiding for nearly two years, resurfaced recently after the death of his father, veteran politician and former Punjab Governor Mian Azhar.
Following his father’s demise, he stated, “I’m the only son of my parents, and my family and have endured immense pain and grief for over two years. In this time of sorrow, I wish to be with my family, especially my mother.”
Sources said that if bail is denied after his expected surrender, Hammad Azhar is prepared to submit to arrest and face jail time.
Earlier today, the Cantt Kacheri court in Lahore issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for PTI leader Shibli Faraz in a case related to an alleged attack on Islamabad police outside the residence of PTI founder Imran Khan in Zaman Park in Lahore.
The court has also summoned the former prime minister Imran Khan to appear before the court on July 30.
