Punjab Assembly resolution proposes lowering driving license age to 16

Punjab Assembly resolution proposes lowering driving license age to 16

LAHORE: A resolution was submitted in the Punjab Assembly to reduce the age of issuance of driving licenses from 18 to 16 years.

Opposition member Sheikh Imtiaz Mahmood submitted this resolution, which states that the number of youth in Pakistan, especially in Punjab, is increasing rapidly, and the driving age should be reduced to actively include them in the economy.

The resolution further stated that in many provinces of Canada, driving is allowed at the age of 16, while in Germany, this age is 17.

The resolution demands that in Pakistan, too, the minimum driving age be reduced from 18 to 16 years so that youth can participate in the country’s development.

It should be noted that the age limit for issuing driving licenses in Pakistan is generally set at 18 years.
