LAHORE: In the Punjab Assembly, Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman presented the budget of Rs 5,903 billion for the financial year 2026-27 in the house.
The budget session of the Punjab Assembly began with a delay of one hour and forty minutes, which was chaired by Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was also present in the house.
The session began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, Naat-e-Rasul-e-Maqbool (PBUH) and the national anthem. As soon as the session began, the opposition protested strongly and started chanting slogans as soon as they entered the house.
The provincial finance minister said that the total budget volume of 2026-27 has been proposed at Rs 5,903 billion 46 crore, the salaries of government employees have been increased by 7%, and a 3.5% increase in the pension of government employees is proposed.
Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman said that Rs 752 billion has been allocated for development matters in Punjab, the provincial revenue target has been proposed at Rs 1,209 billion, the Board of Revenue target has been set at Rs 86 billion 19 crore, and Rs 750 billion has been allocated for the education sector.
