Punjab CM Maryam approves 1500 electric buses for Punjab

LAHORE: In a move to make Punjab smog-free and environment-friendly, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a province-wide electric bus project, aiming to deploy 1,500 buses across multiple cities in Punjab.

In the first phase, 380 electric buses will be introduced in Lahore and Gujranwala, with the procurement process set to begin immediately and a deadline of June.

The project will later extend to other cities, including Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Rahim Yar Khan, and Dera Ghazi Khan.

The Chief Minister has directed officials to present route plans for Faisalabad and Gujranwala and to provide progress on Lahore’s Yellow Line project within 15 days.

Additionally, a new transport command and control center will be established in Lahore, along with charging stations for the electric fleet. Maryam Nawaz emphasized that modern public transportation is the right of every citizen, not just those in Lahore, and expressed her desire for “world-class bus systems in every major city of Punjab”.

This initiative aligns with the government’s priorities, focusing on sustainable development and improving citizens’ quality of life.
