govt employees' salary pension increased

LAHORE: The Punjab government has taken a major decision under the austerity policy and announced a cut in the salaries of government officers.

According to a letter issued by the Punjab Finance Department, two days of basic salary of officers in grade 17 and above will be deducted. This deduction will be made from the salaries of April 2026.

According to officials, the application of this decision will not be limited to government departments only, but will also include officers of autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions, government companies and local government.

The letter states that this decision will be implemented throughout Punjab and instructions have been issued to all relevant institutions to implement it.

Officials say that the amount received from this deduction will be deposited in the Prime Minister’s Special Fund 2026 Punjab. This fund will be used to reduce government expenditure and improve financial discipline.

In this regard, formal orders have also been issued to other institutions including the Board of Revenue and Planning and Development so that this decision can be implemented immediately.
