LAHORE: The Punjab government has officially decided to extend its laptop distribution scheme to students of private universities for the first time. In the initial phase, 10,000 laptops will be distributed among eligible candidates.
Officials said the move aims to bridge the educational and digital gap between public and private university students in the province. The Higher Education Department has confirmed that preparations for the scheme are underway and the distribution of laptops to eligible students will begin soon.
Government sources confirmed that the eligibility criteria remain unchanged, and students will be selected based on merit. The scheme includes students enrolled in private universities in Punjab who have at least 70% marks or equivalent CGPA and who have not received a laptop in previous distributions.
A representative from the Punjab Higher Education Department stated that the initiative seeks to reduce the digital divide and ensure equal educational opportunities for all students.
Additionally, the scheme maintains quotas for female students, students with disabilities, and those from low-income families to promote fair access to technological resources.
