Punjab govt ‘Free WiFi’ initiative launched in Nankana Sahib

Punjab CM Maryam announced free WIFI to 22 Cities

LAHORE: The Punjab government has launched the “Free Wi-Fi” initiative in Nankana Sahib after its successful implementation in Lahore and Kasur, here on Wednesday.

As per the details, in a statement today, Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab Maryam Nawaz said that the use of free internet service by more than five million citizens in Lahore illustrates the success of the project.

She said that the Safe Cities project will soon be started in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala, which will later be extended to eighteen cities across Punjab.

On the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the scope of free Wi-Fi service in Lahore was increased from 100 points to 200 points.

Free Wi-Fi is available in areas such as Manga Mandi, Multan Road, Bund Road, Chuhng, Shahpur Kanjran, Sundar, Valencia, Maraka, and other regions.

According to an official statement, free emergency Wi-Fi service is being provided for the citizens under the ‘Digital Punjab’ vision.

In emergency situations, the service can be used to contact the police and family members, as well as use the Women’s Safety app, the Punjab Police app, and WhatsApp.

Note that this service is not available for Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, or other entertainment apps. The range of each free Wi-Fi device in Lahore extends up to 300 feet from the respective point.
