Punjab govt moves to unify seminary registration system

LAHORE: The Punjab government has taken a major decision regarding religious seminaries and has decided to unify their registration system and amend the act.

According to ARY News, the Punjab government has decided to unify the registration system of religious seminaries in the province and amend the act for this.

For this, legal amendments are proposed to relax the condition of separate registration under the Societies Registration Act.

After this act, seminaries registered under the Federation of Islamic Seminaries and other religious boards will not have to register again.

Sources said that it is proposed to give legal status to the federal registration of seminaries at the provincial level as well. For this, the Punjab government will link the federal and provincial data of seminaries.

According to sources, the seminary that will be registered in the records of the federal authority will not have to be registered in Punjab.

In this regard, the amendments have been sent to the provincial cabinet after consultation with scholars and seminary administrators.

According to officials of the Home Department, the Punjab cabinet will be briefed on the amendment to the Societies Act and its approval will be sought.
