QAU students arrested for refusing to vacate hostels

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police have arrested dozens of students for not vacating the hostels of Quaid-e-Azam University on Tuesday.

According to the university administration, it was decided to temporarily close the hostels from July 13, 2025, during the summer vacations, given the annual repair and renovation work.

The university administration says that orders were given to the students to vacate the hostels by July 21, after which a large number of students complied with the orders and vacated the hostels; however, protests were ongoing by some students.

According to the university administration, the Islamabad High Court had also rejected the students’ petition, after which some students had been given repeated time to vacate the hostels.

However, after the final time expired, action was taken to vacate the hostels today, during which dozens of students were arrested.

According to the administration, the VC office has been locked because of the student protest at Quaid-e-Azam University, and the VC Secretariat has also been closed due to the protest.

On the other hand, the students’ lawyer Iman Mazari says that 72 students have been arrested and brought to the Secretariat police station.

In addition, the Islamabad Police is avoiding giving a position on the arrest of students from the hostels of Quaid-e-Azam University.
