Quetta: Seven dead, several injured in explosion near Jaffar Express

QUETTA: At least seven dead, and over 20 are injured in a blast near the railway track close to Chaman Phatak in Quetta as the Jaffar Express comes under attack on Sunday.

20 people were injured due to an explosion on the Jaffar Express near Chaman Phatak on Sunday morning, according to media reports.

Police say that due to the extremely tight security arrangements around the railway station and the high level of preparedness of the agencies, the terrorists could not directly target the train.

According to officials, the nature of the explosion that occurred near Chaman Phatak on Sunday morning is being carefully determined, whether it was a suicide attack, an explosive device or a cylinder explosion.

This powerful explosion took place very close to the Jaffar Express, as a result of which a coach of the train was severely damaged, and a fire suddenly broke out in it.

According to police, the explosion partially damaged the train and severely damaged 4 nearby vehicles, while the echo of the explosion was heard far and wide, causing severe panic in the entire area and breaking the windows of nearby buildings and shops.

Immediately after the incident, rescue teams, fire brigades, and law enforcement agencies reached the spot and cordoned off the entire area.

On the other hand, an emergency has been declared in government hospitals so that the injured can be provided with immediate and best medical assistance.

In view of security concerns, the Jaffar Express from Quetta to Peshawar has been temporarily stopped while further investigation into the incident and the process of collecting evidence is in full swing.
