WASHINGTON: The finalization of the peace agreement to end the ongoing tension and fighting between the United States and Iran is expected to be announced by Sunday afternoon.

The American newspaper The Washington Times has reported, citing sources, that a consensus was reached on the draft agreement on Saturday morning and that it could be officially announced within the next 24 hours.

According to the report, the negotiations included Iranian Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, JD Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, who have approved the initial draft of the peace agreement.

It has been reported that the document has been sent to the top leadership of both countries for final approval.

If this agreement is successful, the ceasefire that has been going on for the past 6 weeks could take the form of a permanent peace; however, Donald Trump has indicated that the possibility of new attacks in the future cannot be completely ruled out.

According to the newspaper, the full details of the proposed ceasefire agreement have not yet been revealed, while important points of contention, such as the future of Iran’s nuclear program and the easing of sanctions, are still under discussion. In addition, the two countries must also agree on how to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Negotiators Are Very Close to the Final Stages

US President Donald Trump has claimed that negotiations related to an agreement with Iran are approaching their final stage and that an announcement regarding the deal could be made soon.

Speaking about ongoing diplomatic efforts, Trump said the final aspects of the proposed agreement with Iran are currently under discussion and expressed optimism about reaching an outcome.

The US president also stated that discussions with leaders of Muslim-majority countries regarding the Iran issue had been positive.

According to Trump, he held conversations with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as well as with regional leaders, including Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

Trump further claimed that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen following an agreement, linking maritime stability in the region to the success of diplomatic efforts.

Earlier, Donald Trump said that US and Iranian negotiators are very close to the final stages of a possible agreement to end the war.

In an interview with the American broadcaster CBS News, Donald Trump said that the agreement under consideration would prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and would also satisfactorily resolve the issue of enriched uranium.

In another interview, US President Donald Trump said that he could make a decision on a possible war with Iran by Sunday. Donald Trump said that the US will either make a good deal with Iran or destroy it.

It should be noted that Pakistan is actively pursuing diplomacy for an agreement between the US and Iran, and in this regard, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir also made an official visit to Iran.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit was part of ongoing mediation efforts to reduce tensions and promote constructive engagement in the context of the ongoing tensions in the region following the US-Iran ceasefire of April 8, 2026.

According to the ISPR, the detailed talks held over the past 24 hours have resulted in encouraging progress towards a final understanding.
