RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has submitted a revised PC-I for the Rawalpindi Ring Road project to the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) in Lahore, after addressing concerns raised by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) regarding the project’s increased cost from Rs32 billion to Rs39 billion.

The CDWP had requested the RDA to adjust the escalation by reducing other overhead charges while maintaining the overall project cost.

According to a senior RDA official, Nespak, the project’s consultant, calculated the increased construction cost based on inflation, bringing the total to Rs39.6 billion.

The official also stated that Rs1 billion has already been spent on construction, and the project will gain momentum after the revised PC-I is approved. The project was initially approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in December 2021 for Rs23.606 billion, with a completion period of 36 months.

The proposed Ring Road will span 38.3 km, featuring five interchanges at Baanth, Chak Baili Khan, Adiala Road, Chakri Road, and Thalian.

An industrial zone will be established around the highway, designed for a speed of 120km/h with six lanes. The project’s complexity led to an extended completion date of September 2025.
