KARACHI: A tropical depression formed over the Arabian Sea on Sunday, intensifying from a low-pressure system. The system, potentially named “Dana“, if it develops into a storm, is being closely monitored by the Cyclone Warning Centre in Karachi.

According to the Met Office, the system has strengthened, moving closer to Karachi, now approximately 900 kilometers away.

The weather in most Sindh districts will remain hot and dry on Sunday, but areas such as Karachi, Tharparkar, Nagarparkar, Umarkot, Mithi, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, and Hyderabad may experience rainfall with wind and thunderstorms in the evening or night.

Similar weather conditions are expected in these areas on Monday, with rain and thunderstorms predicted. Currently, there is no indication that the system will affect Pakistan’s coastal areas in Sindh and Balochistan.

Weather experts forecast that the depression will intensify into a tropical cyclone, traversing the central Arabian Sea on Monday and Tuesday. Two potential trajectories are possible:

The system may move westward toward the Arabian Sea’s center and then toward Oman’s coastline. Alternatively, it may move west-southwestward toward the Arabian Sea’s center and then toward Yemen’s Socotra Island.

The Cyclone Warning Centre continues to monitor the situation, providing updates on the system’s development and potential impact.
