Religious ministry urges PTA to block pornographic & harmful content online

PTA tax reduction on phones to be considered During next budget

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Religious Affairs has requested the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to block and restrict access to obscene, profane and other harmful content available online.

The ministry raised the issue in a letter, which said: “It has been noted with grave concern that Pakistan is one of the top countries for viewing obscene content, which is very alarming, especially but in light of the negative impact on public morals and the well-being of our society, it remains accessible on various platforms despite the PTA’s proactive measures to block such content.

The religious ministry acknowledged the PTA’s efforts to curb such content but called for more action to eradicate it.

It said that such content violates Pakistani culture and religious values. It said the widespread availability of such content undermines efforts to protect citizens, especially young people, from exposure to harmful content.
