Rs. 330 million spent on security measures during PTI protests

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police incurred expenses of over Rs. 330 million in efforts to control the recent three-day protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

As per the media reports, the authorities sealed 24 strategic locations using over 800 containers to secure the federal capital. The cost of deploying the containers alone was Rs. 72.8 million, and these containers have been lying in place for seven days now, adding to the mounting expenses.

The police reported using 35,000 tear gas shells during the protest, costing Rs. 5,000. 150 million for the shells alone. Additionally, the cost of purchasing rubber bullets and 2,500 firearms totaled Rs. 110 million.

The total cost of managing the protest does not include the expenses incurred by the authorities in Rawalpindi, which also saw tight security measures during the protests.

The significant costs have raised concerns about the financial burden of managing political unrest and its long-term impact on public resources.
