ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Leghari held an online meeting with Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar to discuss cooperation in the energy sector, particularly the privatization of power distribution companies (DISCOs) in Pakistan.
During the meeting, Awais Leghari briefed his Turkish counterpart on the ongoing reforms in Pakistan’s power sector and highlighted the investment opportunities available for international investors.
He emphasized that Pakistan is keen to involve experienced global investors in the privatization of its distribution companies.
The minister said that the participation of experienced Turkish companies would be highly valuable in improving efficiency and performance in Pakistan’s power sector.
He also thanked Turkish institutions and experts for their close cooperation and support during the privatization process. On the occasion, Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that investors from Türkiye are closely monitoring the privatization process in Pakistan’s power sector.
He expressed hope that Turkish investors would participate in the privatization process at an appropriate level. Bayraktar further assured that Türkiye would extend full cooperation to Pakistan in the privatization of its power sector.
Both sides also discussed the possibility of organizing a forum to bring together Pakistani representatives and Turkish investors to explore potential partnerships and investment opportunities in the energy sector.
The meeting reflects the growing cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye in the field of energy and infrastructure development.
