PESHAWAR: The district administration of Peshawar on Monday imposed Section 144 in the district during the Muharram ul Haram to maintain the law and order situation, according to a notification.

Pillion riding and the Afghan refugees’ movement have also been halted during the Muharram, according to a statement issued by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

Aerial firing, hate speech, and misuse of loudspeakers have also been strictly prohibited by the district administration.

All inn, hotel room rentals, and rent-a-car services in Peshawar city will remain suspended during this period.

As precautionary measures, all the gas cylinder shops near sensitive areas are also ordered to remain closed to prevent any kind of incident in the religious gatherings.

Earlier, the Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) had formed a special team to snub the hate speechers during the holy month of Muharramul Haram on the direction of the Ministry of Interior, according to media reports.

A crackdown shall be initiated against hate speech, misinformation, and incitement on social media. Those involved in the spread of such acts will be punished under the relevant sections of the law, as per the statement issued.

The team will include technical specialists, digital analysts, and officers monitoring hate material to monitor digital media posts based on religious incitements and hatred.

The NCCIA said that preventing incitement on social media during Muharram will be its top priority, and legal action will be taken against those found spreading hatred.
