LAHORE: In order to maintain the law and order situation, the Punjab home department has issued a notification to impose section 144 in the province during the holy month of Muharram.
The notification was issued on Saturday, stating that no proactive and sectarian violence shall be allowed during the month, and special security measures shall be taken to prevent it.
Authorities have banned showcasing of any type of guns and firearms, also applicable to licensed arms as well.
Furthermore, any statement, slogan, or gesture that can arouse religious or sectarian feelings shall be forbidden under Section 144.
Additionally, it will be severely prohibited to make statements that incite racial or sectarian hate by any means, including printed materials, loudspeakers, or social media.
Additionally, the notice said that on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, pillion riding will be forbidden across Punjab. Law enforcement personnel, women, and senior persons will be exempted from it.
The Home Department reiterated that all restrictions except for the pillion riding ban will be in effect from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram across Punjab.
