Senate body approves blue passports for children of former MPs

ISLAMABAD: A Senate committee approved without any dissenting voice a bill providing for issuance of blue passports to children of retired MPs below the age of 28, who were being given a privilege previously extended only to dependent children of retired Grade-22 civil servants.

The Members of Parliament Salaries and Allowances (Amendment) Bill, 2026, was tabled by Senator Abdul Qadir as a private member’s bill.

The bill was passed by the Senate Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control at a meeting presided over by Senator Faisal Saleem Rahman.

The Minister of State for Interior, Muhammad Talal Chaudhry, welcomed the bill and expressed that the committee recommendations would be submitted to the cabinet for final approval by the competent authority.

In the discussion, the committee members considered the possible implications of the proposed passport policy, which included its possible impact on Pakistan’s ranking of international passports.
