ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan Star All-rounder Shahid Afridi has, once again, come under criticism on social media because of his recent remarks.
While speaking at an event held in Islamabad, Afridi talked about how children are raised, the use of mobile phones, and what parents are actually responsible for.
He said that religious, or even worldly, education by itself is not enough. Shahid Afridi stressed that a child’s moral and religious upbringing is the main thing, like the foundation, not just a subject.
Afridi also remarked that nowadays many parents quickly hand over mobile phones to children, just to keep them calm, and that excessive phone usage is turning into a real and serious problem.
The former cricketer further shared that he did not allow his daughters to use mobile phones before marriage.
He also mentioned that raising children is not only the mother’s job, and that both parents should spend time together on their children’s upbringing, so it doesn’t become one-sided.
Still, his comments triggered strong reactions online. A lot of users argued that instead of pushing kids away from technology, parents should teach them how to use it responsibly, and not just restrict everything.
Some people described Afridi’s views about his daughters as strict and old-fashioned, while others criticized his remarks in a more sarcastic way.
