ISLAMABAD: In the ABN News program “Tajzia”, Sher Afzal Marwat, while discussing the current situation in the country, expressed serious concerns over state institutions, constitutional crisis, and human rights violations.
Sher Afzal Marwat said that his arrest in the Parliament House was not only illegal, but the footage of the entire incident is preserved in CCTV cameras.
According to him, how the police acted is a source of shame for the whole world. He questioned under which law the police entered the Parliament, locked it, and detained the members of the assembly. According to him, this act is not only unconstitutional but also falls under the category of rebellion.
He said that the Constitution of Pakistan, especially after the 26th Constitutional Amendment, has lost its original spirit. The law is now only for the powerful, while ordinary citizens, even public representatives, are deprived of justice.
He alleged that today, all the parties that had signed the Charter of Democracy have come to power and are doing the same thing. Sher Afzal called National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq a good person, but also clarified why such incidents always happen during his tenure.
According to him, there are penalties for those who attack the sanctity of Parliament under Article 7, but no one has been seen getting punished.
He added that justice in the country has become reserved for only the chosen few. Imran Khan’s cases have been delayed for a long time, and there is a general perception that decisions will not be delivered until influential businessmen, such as Malik Riaz, “agree” to something.
He expressed concern that Pakistani citizens, especially those living abroad, are very disappointed and scared by the current situation in the country. They want the rule of law in Pakistan too, as seen in the US or Europe.
Sher Afzal said that “the roots of the state are becoming hollow when we have kept Imran Khan in jail for two years, and those who raise their voices for the truth. “The justice system is currently fighting for its survival, while the country is ruled by a mafia-style government.”
He also made it clear that the government is only pursuing a policy of wasting time, there is no clear solution to the issues, and the chaos is increasing further.
