Sindh declares school holiday on January 28

Punjab to introduce mandatory teaching licenses

KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced the closure of all public institutions on January 28 to observe Shab-e-Meraj.

The notification issued by the education department on Friday stated “All educational institutions under its purview will be closed on January 28, 2025 (Tuesday) on account of Shab-e-Meraj.

Earlier, the College Education Department also issued a notification, announcing that all public and private colleges in the province will remain closed on January 28.

Muslims every year on the 27th of Rajab (Lunar calendar) observe Shab-e-Miraj, the Night of Ascent, with great religious zeal. Muslims offer prayers and attend religious gatherings to celebrate the occasion.

Shab-e-Mairaj marks the Isra (journey) and Mairaj (ascension) of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) who was taken on a special journey to meet Allah Almighty, crossing seven skies on the heavenly animal named ‘al-Buraq’.
