KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced a free electric bike scheme for women with 10,000 bikes to be distributed across the province.
The registration process for women applicants has officially begun under the Workers Welfare Board of Sindh.
Sindh Labour Minister Shahid Thaheem said that eligible women can submit their applications online through the official website of the Workers Welfare Board.
The initiative has been launched with an aim to enhance mobility and economic empowerment for working women, particularly those in the industrial sector.
The Sindh minister said that women industrial workers aged up to 45 years are eligible for the scheme, with a 20% quota reserved for minority women.
Successful applicants will be given 60 days to obtain a driving license, and the draw process will be conducted digitally.
Earlier in June this year, Sharjeel Memon said that the Sindh government will distribute pink EV scooters every year to encourage women and increase their agility and independence.
So far, 8,000 applications have been received from women for the scheme, and the government has started purchasing EV bikes, ensuring that only licensed women will be eligible to get them.
