Solar users get unexpectedly high electricity bills

IMF tax plan may raise solar prices in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The solar consumers throughout the nation experienced unexpected electricity fee increases because power companies neglected to subtract the electricity their solar panels produced.

According to users, the latest bills show full consumption charges, while exported solar units are completely missing from the net-metering record.

Consumers say that the relief they expected from their bills has turned into a 440-volt shock, which resulted from missing solar-generated units.

Many users claim they were charged for all imported units, as if they had no solar system installed. The issue has triggered strong public backlash, with citizens demanding immediate correction of bills and clarification from distribution companies.

The officials have not yet provided a formal explanation, but sources indicate that a technical or software error caused the problem. Solar users warn that such mistakes undermine trust in net-metering and make solar adoption more costly for households already struggling with rising power tariffs.
