Traffic Police unveils strict requirement for issuing licenses: Details inside

LAHORE: Lahore Traffic Police has introduced stringent measures to improve transparency in the issuance of driving licenses. DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir announced that cameras will be active at all driving license testing centers at all times and cannot be switched off.

Under the new policy, no driving license will be issued without video evidence of the test. Earlier, backup of test recordings was taken only for 15 days, which made it difficult to process complaints and irregularities. Now, video backups of all centers will be permanently saved and stored in the Safe City Authority’s data center.

DIG Waqas Nazir said that the state-of-the-art system will end the practice of issuing licenses to untrained or unqualified applicants. Cameras and vehicle sensors will automatically detect errors during the driving test, ensuring that only qualified candidates are issued licenses.

The decision has been taken after repeated complaints about loopholes and shortcomings in the testing process. Officials believe that permanent video storage will provide a transparent mechanism for monitoring, auditing, and taking corrective action where necessary.
