ISLAMABAD: Member of the National Assembly Sher Afzal Marwat has claimed that US President Donald Trump wanted to release Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.
Member of the National Assembly Sher Afzal Marwat claimed in an interview that the US President had also contacted Chief of Defense Forces and Field Marshal Asim Munir for the release of Imran Khan.
He said that behind-the-scenes progress was being made for the release of Imran Khan. However, at the same time, some PTI members protested against the US and President Trump in the National Assembly. Due to which the matter could not move forward.
He claimed that he received this information from very reliable sources. And the protest behavior in the parliament affected the diplomatic efforts.
On the other hand, analysts say that apparently no country, including the US, seems to be openly active for the release of Imran Khan. Although more than two and a half years have passed since his arrest.
According to analysts, the United States is currently prioritizing its economic and trade interests over the ongoing political situation in Pakistan.
