QUETTA: At least two police personnel were killed and one injured in an explosion near a police van on Boston Road in the Kuchlak town near Quetta on Saturday.
According to police, the rescue team reached the incident following the explosion and shifted injured policemen to the nearby hospital, who later succumbed to their wounds.
Quetta’s Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Azhar Rashid said that Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Zainuddin and gunman Mohammad Tahir embraced martyrdom whereas the driver got injured and was moved to Mufti Mehmood Memorial Hospital.
The 8-10 kilogramme explosives were planted at the site of the incident beforehand and they exploded as soon as the police vehicle arrived, DSP Quetta said to the media.
Later, security forces and police cordoned off the area and initiated the investigation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a police vehicle in Quetta’s Kuchlak area in Balochistan province, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.
PM Shehbaz expressed condolence and prayed for the souls of the martyred policemen to rest in peace. He also extended wishes for strength and patience to bereaved families during this challenging period.
The prime minister promised to swiftly hold terrorists accountable and reiterated the nation’s unwavering dedication to supporting security forces in combating terrorism.
