Vehicles without number plates will no longer be issued challans, strict action announced

KARACHI: Inspector General (IG) Sindh Javed Alam Odho has said that now not only challans but cases will be registered against those driving vehicles without number plates.

IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho said while holding a press conference that a campaign is underway against those who violate traffic rules in Karachi. And lawbreakers are being identified through Safe City cameras.

He said that people who repeatedly violate traffic rules. Or use illegal tactics like hiding, disappearing or damaging the number plate to avoid e-challans. Strict action will be taken against them.

Javed Alam Odho said that in addition to Safe City, the number of cameras in the city has increased from 30,000 to 40,000. And to further improve the surveillance system, traders are also being encouraged to install cameras.

He said that CCTV cameras have helped solve 70 percent of crime cases, while there has also been a significant reduction in extortion incidents.

The Sindh IG said that action is underway against extortion groups and red warrants have been obtained for the accused abroad. Their arrest will be carried out soon.
