ISLAMABAD: A video clip circulating online has caused a stir on social media after Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz threw controversial religious leader Mufti Qavi out of the mosque at gunpoint.
Mufti Qavi makes headlines often and stays in the social media spotlight, both because of his controversial statements. Most recently, he caused controversy again when he said he would marry the Indian actress Rakhi Sawant after Pakistani actor Dodi Khan claimed he backed out of marrying her.
The same can apply to Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abul Aziz, however. Recently, we saw him in a viral video, also threatening police while holding an automatic gun.
The Qavi-Aziz fracas happened while Mufti Qavi was plain sitting inside the Lal Masjid Jamia Hafsa seminary, talking to some people and having a milkshake or juice.
All of a sudden, Maulana Abdul Aziz bursts in with a gun. Angrily, the cleric told Mufti Qavi to just get out immediately, teasing him that, “Get out now or I will shoot you“.
In the video, Mufti Qavi stands up after saying “Allahu Akbar,“ and Maulana Abdul Aziz threatens him again and states other than leaving, he should never return.
The cleric pointed at Mufti Qavi and said to all the people sitting with him: “Anyone who sits with this thug is not my friend.“ Later, Maulana ridiculed Qavi‘s pants, making fun of the hemline of his trousers in a derogatory tone.
As Mufti Qavi leaves Abdul Aziz angrily and publicly gestures him out, saying, “get out of here. Be gone.“ The cleric further stated: “This thug should be publicly flogged wherever he is seen in the country.
As Mufti Qavi briefly walked back into the room to get his shoes, the cleric further threatened him, “If I see you here again, I will slap you and whip you.“ The video shows Mufti Qavi silently enduring the harassment until he finally left the mosque quietly without any complaint. The only thing he said was “Hazir, Hazir.“
He boasts about being married so many times – he should be ashamed.“ Mufti Qavi is especially infamous always managing to land into trouble, they are always hitting the headlines and staying within the social media sentiment by making hate–orientated remarks.
The event has inspired a lot of online reaction, with users condemning both the Lal Masjid cleric‘s actions, as well as threatening behaviour in a place of worship.
