LAHORE: A shocking event took place at Lahore’s Johar Town neighborhood where a pet lion mauled three kids playing in the streets.

A case was filed by Lahore police against the owner of the lion on serious criminal offenses, including attempted murder and a violation of the Punjab Wildlife Act.

As per the FIR lodged by the injured kids’ father at Johar Town Police Station, the attack took place on Thursday, July 3, when a big cat leaped over the wall of a neighbouring property and attacked the children.

The wild animal utilized its claws and teeth in causing injuries, leaving the children wailing in fear and agony. The father claims that the owner of the lion observed the event happening but chose not to act, and instead seemed to be taking pleasure in the view.

The lion headed back to the compound, and the owner hurriedly abandoned the scene along with the animal, who was loaded onto a car.

The Punjab Wildlife Department established that the lion was housed illegally without a license or proper precautions. When they received information regarding the incident, Wildlife Rangers were immediately deployed, arrested the owner, and moved the lion into a safe compound.

“Having a lion without a license and in the absence of proper enclosure is a grave, non-bailable crime,” said a department spokesperson. “According to the new wildlife laws, the perpetrators can be imprisoned for up to seven years as well as fined up to Rs. 5 million.”

Authorities also emphasized that exotic animals such as lions need strict compliance with safety protocols, such as enclosures and proper permits. The incident has once again sparked public discussion of the dangers posed by keeping dangerous pets in residential areas.

The injured children are receiving treatment, and their condition is said to be stable.
