Youths under 18 years of age will now be able to drive

LAHORE:  On the instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab, the facility of juvenile driving permit has been introduced for youths between the ages of 16 and 18.

After this decision, even young people will be able to legally drive motorcycles.

According to a spokesperson for the traffic police, under this new system, youths between the ages of 16 and 18 will be able to obtain a juvenile driving permit after the written permission of their parents or guardians. Persons holding this permit will be allowed to drive only motorcycles or scooters, while motorcycles up to 125 cc will be allowed to be used.

Officials say that to obtain a permit, it is mandatory to present a smart national identity card or B form. Applicants will have to take a sign test and a road test related to traffic rules. Candidates who pass both the exams will be issued a permit on the spot.

According to Chief Traffic Officer Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam, the aim of this initiative is to promote safe driving among the youth and create awareness about traffic rules. Wearing a helmet will be mandatory for all youth holding a juvenile permit.

According to the traffic police, the annual fee for a juvenile driving permit has been fixed at Rs 500 to Rs 1,000. In case of serious or repeated violation of traffic rules, the permit can also be cancelled.
