LAHORE: Pakistan’s famous host Tabish Hashmi has expressed deep sorrow and anger over the Gul Plaza tragedy that took place in Karachi.
Talking to a private news channel, he said that there is probably no house in Karachi where there is no thing related to Gul Plaza. Tabish Hashmi reminded that from childhood to youth and now to old age, various associations of the city are disappearing one by one.
He said that he listened to the press conference of the Chief Minister of Sindh in which it was said that he is responsible, but words alone do not work, action has to be taken.
Tabish Hashmi said that this is not the first incident in Karachi, many fires have broken out before and many children have died under dumpers.
The host further said that if the Chief Minister is really responsible, what has changed in his position or salary? The compensation given to the affected people is also not given by the government from its own pocket.
Tabish Hashmi quipped: “Just as the government could not run PIA and privatized it, similarly, privatize Karachi. Pathans, Baloch, Sindhis, Mohajirs, Punjabis – all will buy the city and I am sure they will run it in the best possible way.”
He said that if the situation continues like this, the current administration will not be able to manage the city, so the people can try to manage the city themselves.
After the Gul Plaza tragedy, Tabish Hashmi’s statement has come as a criticism of the government and a call for solutions to urban problems.
