DHAKA: An incident of alleged police torture on Bangladesh cricket team spinner Naeem Hasan has come to light in Chittagong, after which there has been a wave of concern in the country’s cricket circles.
According to a report by a cricket website, police personnel in Chittagong allegedly stopped Naeem Hasan and mistreated him. The report claimed that he was later taken to the police station where the officers tortured him.
Naeem Hasan has alleged that the police stopped him without any clear reason and behaved aggressively with him. According to him, he was tortured with sticks and plastic pipes at the police station, while the officers did not change their attitude despite revealing their identity.
After the incident, Naeem Hasan has demanded a complete and transparent investigation into the matter so that the facts can come out. According to him, this kind of behavior is unacceptable towards any citizen or player.
On the other hand, the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the Cricketers Welfare Association have also taken notice of the incident and demanded an investigation and said that it is necessary to ensure the safety of the players.
It should be noted that Naeem Hasan has represented Bangladesh in 14 Test matches so far and has been an important part of the team. After this incident, voices are being raised in support of him in cricket circles, while there is also a strong reaction on social media.
