ISLAMABAD: Pakistan batsman Mohammad Rizwan has moved into the top 10 of the latest ICC Men’s Test Batter Rankings, achieving a new career high with his impressive performance in the first Test against Bangladesh.
As per the details, after his century in the same match, Rizwan gained seven places and entered the top 10 to reach a new career high ranking of 10th.
After Pakistan’s extraordinary first innings defeat against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, Babar dropped six places from equal third to ninth.
Harry Brook has also made a big splash in the top 10 of the latest rankings.
While veteran right-hander Joe Root has retained his place as the world’s No.1 Test batsman after England‘s first Test series win against Sri Lanka in Manchester, team-mate Brooke is behind the score. A great leap has been made. 56 and 32 during this Old Trafford encounter.
Brook moved up three places to fourth overall, with the 25-year-old ahead of Pakistan’s Babar Azam, Australia’s Steve Smith and India’s Rohit Sharma thanks to his strong recent form.
That means Babar is just six rating points ahead of Rizwan in the latest Test batsman rankings, while Pakistan vice-captain Saud Shakeel has moved up one to 13th overall thanks to his own century against Bangladesh. Not far behind after getting the position.
Bangladesh right-hander Mushfiqur Rahim rose seven places to 17th, while Sri Lankan duo Dinesh Chandimal (up four places to 23rd) and Kamindu Mendis (up eight places to 36th) and England newcomer Jamie Smith (from 22nd to 42nd) also rose in the Test batsman rankings.
India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin remains out of the Test bowlers’ rankings, although fellow tweaker Parbat Jayasuriya has moved up one place to ninth for Sri Lanka after taking five wickets against England in Manchester.
Woakes also improved one place to eight in the list of Test all-rounders, with Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja excluded from the category.
