DUBAI: Pakistan batsman Babar Azam has improved his position in the T20I and Test rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday.
The right-handed batsman jumped one place to sixth in the T20I rankings. South Africa’s dasher Reeza Hendricks (ninth with six runs) also makes it to the T20I batsmen’s rankings, while Bangladesh’s biggest mover is Mahedi Hasan as he moves up 18 places to 23rd in the T20I bowlers’ rankings.
However, Travis Head remained at the top, followed by Phil Salt and India’s Tilak Verma in second and third respectively.
Meanwhile, a West Indies spinner has become the new No. 1 bowler in the T20I rankings for the first time as the race to become the premier Test batsman takes another turn in the latest ICC Men’s Player Rankings.
Left-arm spinner Akhil Hossain climbed to the top of the T20I bowlers’ tree after taking two wickets for West Indies in the series opener against Bangladesh, his spell of 2/13 helping the spinner improve. Three places to take the No. 1 spot.
In the Test rankings, Babar Azam jumped one place to 17th in the Test batsmen’s rankings while Saud Shakeel remained unchanged at 10th.
England veteran Joe Root regained his place as the No. 1 Test batsman after scores of 32 and 54 during the third Test against New Zealand in Hamilton, while teammate Harry Brook slipped to second after failing in the same match. A short week at the top.
