The ECB Warns IPL Franchises Over Pakistan Players issue has raised serious attention before The Hundred draft. The England and Wales Cricket Board has officially contacted all eight teams. It reminded them to follow rules and avoid discrimination in the upcoming auction.

The auction will take place on March 11 and 12. Reports earlier said some Indian-owned teams may not pick Pakistan players. These teams include Manchester Super Giants, MI London, Southern Brave, and Sunrisers Leeds.

The ECB clearly stated that ignoring players because of nationality is not acceptable. It warned that strict action could be taken if any discrimination is proven. The matter may also be sent to the independent Cricket Regulator.

The board also has its own authority to take action. It is responsible for managing The Hundred competition and ensuring fair selection.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have affected cricket for many years. Pakistan players have not been part of the Indian Premier League since 2009. This has reduced their chances in many global leagues.

This year, 67 Pakistan players have registered for The Hundred draft. This includes 63 men and four women. Big names include Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah.

In total, 964 players have signed up for the auction. Teams will first submit a list of interested players. Then, the ECB will finalize around 200 names for the main draft.

Last year, no Pakistan player was picked in the main auction. However, Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim later joined as replacement players.

Pakistan’s busy international schedule is also a factor. Pakistan will tour the West Indies during The Hundred. They will also play a Test series against England soon after the tournament ends.

The ECB wants to ensure fair opportunities for all players. Its message makes clear that selection must be based on performance, not nationality.
