IPL, WPL airing halted in Bangladesh by Geostar: Here's why!

MUMBAI: Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s entertainment company Geostar has terminated its broadcasting contract in Bangladesh for the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament.

According to the Reuters news agency, the company said that its local partner has repeatedly delayed payments and violated the contract.

According to the report, Bangladesh had banned the broadcasting of the IPL in January. This decision was taken after the Kolkata Knight Riders team excluded Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the team on the instructions of the Indian Cricket Board. Tensions between the two countries increased after the incident.

There are reports that even if the ban is lifted, local broadcasting of the IPL will not be possible this season.

In another letter dated the same date, Geostar also announced the termination of its broadcasting contract in Bangladesh for the Women’s Premier League.
