Pakistan maintains early lead to register win against Japan in Asian Hockey Champions Trophy

HULUNBUIR: Pakistan registered their first team after defeating Japan 2-1 in the ongoing Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2024 at the Moqi Hockey Training Base in Hulunbuir, China on Wednesday.

Ahmad Nadeem clinched the early lead with a first goal in the ninth minute, strengthening the Green Shirts’ position in the game Sufyan Khan found the back of the net with a well-executed penalty corner in the 21st minute.

Later in the first half, Japan’s Raiki Fujishima helped Japan make a comeback with their first goal of the match in the second quarter. In the last two quarters, Ammad Butt-led young side maintained their lead until the final hooter.

This victory led Pakistan to register their first triumph in the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy after the two games ended in a draw against Malaysia and South Korea.

The Green Shirts’ clash against South Korea on Monday ended in a 2-2 draw after they failed to defend their two-goal lead.

On Sunday, Pakistan’s match against Malaysia also ended in a 2-2 draw with a last-minute thriller from both sides.

Pakistan will play China on September 12 followed by India on September 14.
