LAHORE: Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi announced a major revamp of the domestic cricket structure and said that the quality of domestic cricket will be improved at the grassroots level.
Chairing a meeting in National Cricket Academy (NCA) Lahore, Mohsin Naqvi said PCB will hire professional coaches to help improve the domestic structure and meritocracy will be ensured at all costs.
The meeting was held following Pakistan’s unexpected elimination from the group stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 after initial two setbacks from the United States (USA) and arch-rival India.
He directed to professionally groom players to help bridge the gap at the international circuit. The meeting also approved a plan to improve the quality of domestic cricket.
According to a PCB statement, Mohsin Naqvi said that tournaments will be organized continuously from the club level to the national level. He added that athletes should be provided with professional grooming.

“Better coaches will improve the skills of the new talent by training them,” Naqvi said, adding that players will only be given further opportunities based on their performance, fitness, and merit.
However, he said, the promotion of quality domestic cricket will help bridge the gap with international cricket. “Investing in new talent will promote cricket at the grassroots level and yield positive results.”
On the instructions of Mohsin Naqvi, it has been decided to hold tournaments of all three formats for the promotion of quality domestic cricket, PCB said in a statement.
In the meeting, the structure of domestic cricket in India, New Zealand, Australia, and England was also discussed.
During the meeting, while calling no for the improvement of coaches in the domestic circuit, Naqvi also decided to revise the domestic contracts. He said that players who want to play for the national side would have to take part in the domestic circuit.
