Proteas Star Faf du Plessis ruled out of PSL due to thumb injury

LAHORE: South Africa’s star batsman Faf du Plessis has been ruled out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) due to his right thumb injury.

Sources say that Faf du Plessis suffered a serious injury to his right thumb during the recently played SA20 League 2025-26, after which he had to withdraw from the event in the middle of the season.

According to medical experts, the nature of the injury is serious, and surgery has become necessary for a complete recovery, due to which he will be away from competitive cricket for the next few months.

Faf du Plessis last represented Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2021. He has played only 6 matches for two different franchises, Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi, in two seasons of PSL so far. In these competitions, he scored 107 runs in 5 innings, averaging 21.40 while having a strike rate of 122.98.
