young man commits suicide after losing 100K in online betting

TELANGANA: An 18-year-old youth committed suicide in the Indian state of Telangana after losing money on an online betting application.

According to Indian media, Vikram had lost about 1 lakh rupees through a betting app. Due to severe mental stress, Vikram attempted suicide by consuming insecticide.

When Vikram’s condition worsened, his parents immediately took him to the hospital, but he died during treatment.

Indian media says that a few days ago, a similar incident took place in Hyderabad city where a taxi driver committed suicide due to a growing debt on an online betting application.

At the time of death, the taxi driver had a debt of about 15 lakh rupees. He also consumed poison under pressure to repay the debt.

According to Indian media, the use of online betting applications has increased alarmingly across India in the last few years.

Government’s Action

The government has launched a nationwide crackdown on illegal online betting platforms, directing relevant authorities to block websites, freeze linked bank accounts, and take legal action against those involved.

Officials said the move aims to protect youth, curb financial crimes, and ensure strict enforcement of cyber and gambling laws.
