ISLAMABAD: Apple is working on a budget-friendly MacBook, marking its first move into the lower-end laptop market, the Bloomberg revealed.

As per the details, the new device, aimed at students and light users, is expected to launch in the first half of next year.

Internally codenamed J700, the laptop is currently in early production. It will feature a smaller LCD display and use less expensive materials to keep costs low — potentially under $1,000.

In contrast to earlier MacBooks, this model will reportedly run on an iPhone-class processor, which Apple’s internal tests show can outperform the older M1 chip.

The affordable Mac aims to rival Chromebooks and budget Windows laptops, particularly in education markets where Apple has struggled to gain share.

This device will be part of Apple’s broader Mac lineup refresh, which also includes upcoming M5-powered MacBook Air and Pro models, a new Mac mini, and a redesigned OLED MacBook Pro expected by 2026.

Apple has not officially confirmed details about the new low-cost Mac.
