ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) says that the fault in the internet submarine cable SMW 5 has been fixed.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has confirmed that the international submarine cable system “SEA-ME-WE 5” (SMW5) has been fully restored, after which internet traffic has returned to normal across Pakistan.
According to PTA officials, the restoration of the SMW 5 cable has ended the internet suspension that had been affecting users since Thursday night. After the repair and restoration of the cable, all internet traffic has returned to normal and services are working as usual.
The disruption in internet service was due to a fault in the SMW 5 submarine cable, which affected a large part of Trans World Associates’ (TWA) international IP transit capacity.
Internet traffic was diverted to alternative international links to minimize service disruption, while Trans World Associates worked closely with the SMW5 Consortium to restore connectivity.
Officials said that PTA worked closely with Trans World and other stakeholders throughout the incident and was continuously monitoring the situation to ensure the earliest possible restoration of services.
PTA officials have now confirmed that internet services have stabilized and traffic has returned to normal across the country following the full reactivation of the SMW5 cable.
