ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly’s Finance Committee has demanded a reduction in the tax levied on smartphones.
As per the details, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Syed Naveed Qamar, Chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Finance, in which alternative methods were considered for resolving tax disputes.
On this occasion, Syed Naveed Qamar, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Finance, said that the FBR is collecting exorbitant taxes on mobile phones after vehicles.
Stressing the need to work to reduce taxes on smartphones, he said that smartphones are no longer a luxury item but a necessity.
Syed Naveed Qamar, Chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Finance, said that this stance cannot be valid anymore that they are in an IMF program.
In this regard, Member of National Assembly Ali Qasim Gilani called the FBR’s market valuation of mobile phones high.
Tax officials responded by saying that smartphones are used only by rich people, tax is levied on the price of mobile phones, not on the model.
On this occasion, the PTA Chairman said that only 6 percent of expensive mobile phones are imported into Pakistan.
