ISLAMABAD: In a recent technological update, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MOITT) has charted out a roadmap for the induction of 5G technology, starting from June 2025.
According to he auction process of the 5G spectrum would commence in the next month and continue in five phases. Under phase one, the PTA, as the competent authority, will furnish the consultant’s recommendations to the Spectrum Advisory Committee.
In phase two, the advisory committee shall finalize the policy reforms and decide on the pricing and trading terms of 5G spectrum in March. After these processes, the federal government will issue policy directives in April 2025, and the PTA will auction the spectrum in May 2025.
The PTA will auction around four bands: 700 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz, and 3500 MHz for 5G. This is a great development indeed, since it is believed that 5G technology can totally change economies and societies of a country; the roadmap, therefore, is another leather in the smooth embrace of this technology by the Ministry.
