ISLAMABAD: The Secretary of Information Technology (IT) has admitted that the fault in Pakistan’s submarine internet cable system has not yet been completely resolved, stating that repairs are ongoing.
In a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication, the Secretary of IT said that the fault in the internet cable has not yet been completely removed, and the work is ongoing by the international consortium.
He further confirmed that the country’s internet traffic has been diverted to alternative routes to maintain connectivity.
Later, the committee summoned PTA officials to the next meeting on the poor situation of mobile signals across the country.
A detailed briefing was also given on the Islamabad IT Park project in the meeting. During the meeting, the project director said that 80 percent of the work on the project has been completed.
Federal Minister for IT Shaza Fatima said that this project is being completed with the cooperation of a Korean company; however, due to the delay in the project, the Prime Minister has ordered an inquiry.
Shaza Fatima said that network problems are being faced due to spectrum shortage and legal disputes.
The country is currently operating on 274 MHz spectrum, which is insufficient, and the government is trying to hold a spectrum auction by next December or January, she said.
